The Latest

Nothing big has been going on around lately. I've been trying to figure out what to blog about it. So I'll just give a little update. Sawyer had missed the past 2 weeks of school. He started out with a cold but then it quickly turned into a sinus infection and ear infection. I was quite surprised to hear that he had an ear infection, but we got him an antibiotic and it seems to be doing better. For some reason Sawyer's cold always turn into a sinus infection, it's very rare that he just has a cold. The Pediatrician gave us Flonaz (sp?) to squirt up his nose to see if that will help with his sinuses. I'm wondering if constant sinus infections is an RTS thing? Does anybody have any insight on this subject? Hopefully Sawyer will be well enough to go to school next week. I hate that he has missed so much.

Kyle is busy with work, school and getting our sprinkler's in. We've had a lot of help with the sprinkler's and we are so grateful for that!

I'm still sick :(. I'm trying to keep it together but it wears you down after a little while. My mom surprised me with my dream diaper bag yesterday and that sure lifted my spirits! I think that may get me through these next couple of weeks. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow, and I think if I remember correctly I stated feeling better with Sawyer at week 16. So here's to the next few weeks! I think I can, I think I can.!

I have read that frequent ear/sinus infections is an RTS thing. In Mason's case, he was not responding well to his Prevnar shots either (that helps prevent ear infections). And he has immune deficiency. So he got an extra Prevnar and responded better to it. But he doesn't have classic RTS so we're not really sure in his case what the reason is. His brother also has that same problem (frequent ear/sinus issues and poor Prevnar response) and has the same genetic deletion as Mason but not nearly as affected. Hope you all feel better soon :)

I'm so sorry you're both feeling poorly...how terrible!

Yes, sinus infections are common with RTS because of the tiny nasal passages. Natalie didn't actually get sinus infections frequently, but her ears filled up with fluid so she couldn't hear...so she got ear tubes at 12 months and has had them ever since. We've tried a few times to see if she's outgrown the need, but so far she still needs them to be able to hear well.

Emma is notorious for sinus infections because of the small facial structure. She got her first set of tubes in her ears when she was 2, and as long as those stay in place she typically remains sinus infection free??? However, when the tubes fall out and we wait for new ones....she always gets horrible infections! I hope that he feels better soon!
